Blueberry Basil Limeade

This blueberry basil limeade feels like a little backyard celebration in a glass. It is bright, gently herbal, and uses everyday ingredients you can grab at the store.

Materials

  • Blueberries fresh or frozen
  • Basil — a few sprigs
  • Lime — juice of 2
  • Sugar and water for the syrup

Instructions

  • Simmer equal parts sugar and water with a cup of blueberries until the sugar dissolves and the berries burst. Mash lightly to release color.
  • Turn off the heat, add basil to infuse for 5 minutes, then strain. Stir in fresh lime juice and chill.
  • This simple syrup creates jewel-toned flavor and lifts the whole recipe. Adjust sweetness below.

Notes

Use frozen berries if that’s what you have. Or start with lemonade as a shortcut and add basil syrup for depth. Top with sparkling water for a fizzy summer vibe, or serve over lots of ice with a basil sprig and lime wheel.
How sweet should it be? If berries are tart, use a bit more syrup. If they’re very sweet, dilute with water or add extra lime to balance the taste.
